Breathe is the outcome of experimenting with both the 60 original tree images I took and the 60 mordancage images which developed over time. Each mordancage image plays for 1 minute at a time, moving in and out of opacity at beginning and end. The full piece runs for 60 minutes, the length of my normal run routine. The sound of me breathing is overplayed; the sound I hear as I make my routine runs in the landscape. Each image was manipulated and animated using fractal noise and displacement mapping. This allows for further degradation and abstraction of each mordancage image which in turn allows space for something new to evolve and happen. Breathe is intended to evoke a sense of contemplation and a transition from the 'outer' (tree bark) to the 'inner' (tree sap); matter acting on matter in a fluid animated state of change.
